Lipa Lodge Beach Resort is one of the most beautiful, untouched, natural beaches in Koh Samui. Away from the crowds, here you can truly relax. Yet it is within 10 minutes drive from Nathon, the Island’s capital which offers a variety of shops and local markets.

A history of Lipa Lodge Beach Resort

Lipa Lodge Beach Resort is situated on the west coast of Koh Samui, directly by the sea and soft sand beach. It takes its name from the surrounding area, Lipa Noi.

Lipa Lodge was established in 1972 by an award winning chef, Khun Toni originally from Surathani on the mainland.  Toni fell in love with island’s environment; the sea, beach, the calmness and the local lifestyle. Over the years he and his family made many friends in Koh Samui.

Back in 1972 Lipa Lodge comprised 20 simple, traditional bungalows made of woven bamboo walls and palm-leaf roofs, with basic bathroom facilities. Then on Koh Samui electricity was provided via generators. Toni would ensure that the guests’ bungalows were powered between 6pm – 11pm.  In those days the bungalows cost from 60 to 250 Thai Baht; the cheapest with no inside toilet. Lipa was a perfect attraction for back-packers and those tourists who wished to ‘get away from it all’

Traditionally on Samui, the fishermen and women fished in the bay, bringing their catch in everyday – morning and evening.  The sea then, as today, was full of a wide variety of fish. Back in 1972 cooking fish and eating them on the beach was normal practice. This was the lifestyle that Toni loved and wanted his guests to experience.

Over the years Samui began to modernise. Lipa Lodge moved with the times yet Toni wanted to retain the atmosphere and natural environment.

Today Lipa Lodge has 11 modern bungalows close to the sea and set in beautiful gardens. It is as peaceful, tranquil and inspiring as it was in 1972.

Another special advantage of Lipa Lodge is that it shares some of the best sunset views on the island.   People come from all around to relax, listen to music and watch the sun setting.

The sea is safe for swimming and the beaches are cleaned every day – ideal for families with children.

For all visitors to Koh Samui, we would recommend Lipa Lodge to everyone for the best sunset views on the island.
