A history of Lipa Lodge Beach Resort
Lipa Lodge Beach Resort is situated on the west coast of Koh Samui, directly by the sea and soft sand beach. It takes its name from the surrounding area, Lipa Noi.
Lipa Lodge was established in 1972 by an award winning chef, Khun Toni originally from Surathani on the mainland. Toni fell in love with island’s environment; the sea, beach, the calmness and the local lifestyle. Over the years he and his family made many friends in Koh Samui.
Back in 1972 Lipa Lodge comprised 20 simple, traditional bungalows made of woven bamboo walls and palm-leaf roofs, with basic bathroom facilities. Then on Koh Samui electricity was provided via generators. Toni would ensure that the guests’ bungalows were powered between 6pm – 11pm. In those days the bungalows cost from 60 to 250 Thai Baht; the cheapest with no inside toilet. Lipa was a perfect attraction for back-packers and those tourists who wished to ‘get away from it all’. |
